FEBRUARY 22ND 2015 MARKED THE DATE OF THE THIRD ANNUAL WALK TO END BULLYING

Once again hundreds gathered to take part to support the awareness and funding of the Text2Talk texting platform I AM SOMEONE has developed.

This walk served to raise awareness and raise funds for the Pilot texting platform.

The I AM SOMEONE Ending Bullying Society, together with BC211 and Telus, partnered to offer youth with an innovative texting tool that links youth with the resources they need, how and when they want it.  Youth experiencing issues with bullying may be scared and not know what to do.  By sending an anonymous text message, they can access non-judgmental professional support, as well as options, information, and referrals to services in their community that can help.

The objective of the pilot test was to assess the viability of operating youth texting service in the Tri-Cities area. The pilot test took place from October 8, 2014 to January 31, 2015.  The target audience was secondary school students from 5 schools in the Tri-Cities area. The service was offered Wednesday through Sunday from 3:30 pm–11:00 pm. I AM SOMEONE developed and implemented a targeted marketing campaign through traditional and social media outlets to promote the youth texting service. BC211 provided monthly reporting on key performance indicators which demonstrated a need for the service. The top call drivers were feeling alone, bullying, sadness and grief.

The pilot is now over and I AM SOMEONE  is now looking for strategic partners who want to work with I Am Someone to promote this new service to youth. The goal is to ensure all youth know about this free service.

The next goal is to offer this service throughout British Columbia and across Canada. Working with BC211 we have an opportunity in 2015/16 to achieve this goal. It will be vital to the success to find a national partner with the same goals of helping our youth.
